Tribal Anatolian Kilim Pillows

These pillows are made of traditional Kilims, hand-woven by nomadic people from throughout eastern Anatolia (Turkey).

Traditional designs are passed from one generation to another, some motifs dating back more than a thousand years. Each design tells a tale or a historic narrative, embellished by the imagination of the weaver.The dyes are obtained from animal, vegetable, and mineral sources:

Pillow display
  • Blues from indigo and eggplant skin.
  • Yellows from safflower petals and buds, onion skin, leaves of apricot, apple, willow, and wild pistachio trees.
  • Oranges from grass roots, the bark of plum trees, etc.
  • Greens from walnut and olive tree leaves, sweet violet.
  • Browns and blacks from tea, tobacco, volcanic mud, iron oxide.

    The pillow covers are made entirely of natural wool, obtained from the weaver's own flock of sheep. The white background in the pillows is made of silk. These pillows are sold with the pillow inserts!

    Since these pillows come in all different colors and patterns, we will do our absolute best to match them as closely as possible. Please specify whether you would like muted colors or bolder colors when ordering.
